• spreading mulch, topsoil, and fertilizer
• installing landscaping features such as ponds, decks, arbours, and trellises
• removing debris such as dead leaves and branches
• preparing landscaped areas for winter by removing dead plants, and applying antifreeze to pipes and sprinkler systems

A successful applicant for a landscaper role ideally possesses the following skills:

• artistic talent and a sense of aesthetics
• good communication abilities and interpersonal skills
• knowledge of the principles of horticulture, botany, and landscaping
• creativity and imagination
• physical capacity to work standing or crouching and to lift heavy loads (landscapers are often required to bend, kneel, and lift loads)
• manual dexterity (landscapers often use hand tools such as shovels and rakes)
